TexaCola is inspired by the flavors of our hometown and growing up in South Texas.
So, how did we come up with TexaCola? Well, buckle up—this is a blog, so we’ve got plenty of space to spill the (cola) beans! Let’s rewind to the summer of 2017. I had this idea—no, this vision—to make a craft soda. But I didn’t want to go down the path of wacky, hard-to-pronounce ingredients. Nope. I wanted to create something familiar, something everyone could enjoy. It took a few false starts and some ideas that fizzled out before a serendipitous encounter with Gregg sparked a conversation that changed everything.
Now, Gregg’s not your typical soda guy—he’s a brewer. And as I found out later, he’s also a beekeeper. Yes, an actual beekeeper! This man can do it all. He even makes soap from leftover brewery mash (how cool is that?). But what really blew my mind? Gregg could make soda too!
I’d crossed paths with Gregg before, back when I was at Alamo Beer Company. I was there as Eugene’s marketing sidekick (fun fact: I ran my own marketing firm for a decade), and Gregg was the lead brewer. Fast forward a bit, and we’re bottling our first batches at Alamo because of that long-standing relationship.
Alright, back to the soda. I had this dream of capturing the essence of my heritage on the Southside of San Antonio—where European and Native American influences collide to form the magic we know as Tex-Mex. I wanted a soda that felt familiar but had a dash of South Texas soul.
Gregg took all this in and hit me with, “Why don’t we infuse it with local honey?” And just like that, Southside Craft Soda was born. Local honey, regional ingredients, South Texas culture—it all came together.
Now, let’s talk about the star of this story: TexaCola, our citrus cola. What makes it so special? It’s all about the sourcing. Citrus is king in South Texas, especially down in the Rio Grande Valley. Oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits—you name it, we’ve got it. We put citrus in everything—soups, drinks, you name it. It’s more than just flavor; it’s a way to beat the heat. Citrus brings that refreshing zing that South Texans can’t live without.
To capture that spirit, we blended honey, citrus, Mexican pure cane sugar, and a few other natural ingredients. The result? TexaCola—a soda that’s uniquely Texan, through and through.
